CHIALDIKAS MIXES PANCAKES WITH WATER FOR MWRD BOARD

Paul Chialdikas, owner of P.C.’s Pancake Café in Lemont, recently announced his candidacy for Commissioner of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Chicago (MWRD) in the upcoming elections in November 2008. He feels he can use his entrepreneurial skills as a successful businessman to implement changes in the MWRD to make it a more proactive taxing body. The MWRD is responsible for the collection and treatment of waste from all of Cook County’s residences and businesses.

“As a business owner and resident of Cook County I am concerned about the considerable tax burden we are all facing, and I want service providers such as MWRD to implement changes that will make the organization more transparent and accountable to taxpayers in Cook County. The recent articles about MWRD’s hiring practices on Fox News highlighted one of many areas that MWRD’s performance can be improved”, commented Chialdikas recently.

Recruitment is only one area that Chialdikas feels needs attention at MWRD - more initiatives should be created to protect our natural resources and implement more “green” services. The overall technology and communications systems of MWRD need to be updated not only to make the District more transparent to the tax payer and to create benchmarks to measure performance and accountability, but also to inform the public about what MWRD does and what can be done together to help our environment, particularly how we can all subscribe to programs to easily preserve, conserve and reuse rainwater.

A family man with 3 children, Paul believes that we must protect our natural resources for our children’s future, and we can do this by introducing new, unbiased ideas which are fiscally responsible and environmentally friendly.
